Yiba, 24, was told he was through to the final during a live show at the State Theatre in Pretoria on Sunday, where he serenaded the audience with Sjava’s Abangani, Brian Temba’s Zanele and a performance of his new single which had competition judge Somizi Mhlongo on his feet.

Yiba was the first to occupy a position in the top two, followed by KwaZulu-Natal’s Sneziey Msomi.

Fellow Eastern Cape contestant Micayla Oelofse was eliminated.

Sunday’s performance brought the competition full circle, with the contestants asked to reflect on their experiences throughout the competition, singing the songs they performed during Theatre Week, as well as their favourite song of the season.

Yiba said he was grateful for the continued support from his fans.

“Social media is a powerful platform,” he said.

“I’ve received messages and screen-grabs of people voting from across the country and even countries like Namibia.

“The Eastern Cape, my home, has been the anchor of the support.

“I am very happy and excited to have made it to this stage of the competition.

“I believe we have already sung for our votes -  all I can do now is pray and continue to have fun on stage.”

Yiba said the competition had been an unforgettable experience of growth and learning.

“I’ve grown as a person and as a performer on Idols SA.

“I’ve completely let go of the ‘what will people think’ syndrome and allowed myself to grow into my craft.

“The musical experience from the show has been unmatched - I’ve worked with some of the best musicians in the country,” Yiba said.

To vote for Yiba, SMS 3 to 37400. The finale will air on Sunday on Mzansi Magic, DStv Channel 161, at 5pm.
