Porsche’s Taycan Turbo S has arrived in SA as the most potent electric car money can buy for R4m.

It blitzes the 0-100km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds, making it the second-quickest production Porsche to yet hit the road. Only the new petrol-powered 911 Turbo S is quicker, and that by just one-tenth of a second.

We were the first local publication to drive the new battery-powered Taycan on home soil this week and experience its silent but violent power. With its launch control system engaged, the car musters 560kW from its twin electric motors along with an astonishing 1,050Nm of torque.

Stay tuned for our full driving impression which will be online soon, but in the meantime watch this teaser video of the Taycan’s overtaking ability which is just as impressive (if not more so) than its 0-100 time.

The acceleration is simply brutal, and during our drive on a test track we recorded a video of the speedometer as the car silently blazed from 60-200km/h in just 8.5 seconds. It may look like the video has been sped up, but trust us it hasn't.
