Parties out to woo voters

THE campaign ahead of next month’s national elections is in full swing and political parties are out to impress you and win your vote.

The ruling ANC has even compiled a document for its millions of volunteers, who have been knocking on doors around the country to canvass votes, on how they should answer service delivery questions.

QUESTION: Why is the power cut when poor people cannot afford to pay?

ANSWER: We subsidise poor households (Note: the ANC not taxpayers) to get a basic amount of electricity free. We cannot afford to add more beneficiaries unless we increase electricity prices which affects the poor. Many people also steal electricity through illegal connections.

FACT: More than 20400 indigents in Buffalo City Metro were removed from the list last week and won’t be getting free electricity until they re-register. — zineg@dispatch.co.za
