VIDEO: Mayor, deputy hand themselves in over Mandela scandal

FIVE senior Buffalo City Metro officials, including mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and her deputy Temba Tinta, were ordered to hand themselves over to the Hawks this morning in relation to the Mandela funeral scandal.

Others are council speaker Luleka Simon-Ndzele, councillor Sindiswa Gomba and Ondela Mahlangu, who is the acting director of executive support services in the mayor’s office.

Simon-Ndzele was the first to arrive at the Hawks offices in East London, followed by Mahlangu. Tinta, accompanied by two body guards, arrived moments later. About 30 minutes later, Ncitha joined them.

It was from this pot of money that T-shirts in ANC colours came.

It also emerged that Mkolo’s girlfriend Nosiphiwe Mati, who is the mother of his daughter, is also involved. Mkolo later said their relationship was over.

Among payments made by Victory Ticket owner Mzwandile Sokwali is R100000 to Mati’s business, Mpido Emergency.

A further R899000 was given to Forty Wing, a company owned by Viwe Vazi.

It later emerged that Mkolo’s latest girlfriend, a high-flying Johannesburg-based lawyer Zintle Nkuhlu, received R350000 from the funds through Lily Rose Trust which she co-owns with Sibongile Luthuli.

Question on how the tenders were awarded by BCM and calls for an investigation came from all corners, and subsequently, the four handed themselves over this morning.
