Walter Sisulu University’s Nelson Mandela Drive campus remained closed this morning as students carried on with demonstrations around the Mthatha campus.

They blockaded part of the N2 in front of the campus with burning tyres, but police have since removed them.

Student Representative Council president Melikhaya Mcitwa said they would continue with the demonstrations until their demands were met.

They want the Fees Commission appointed by President Jacob Zuma to release its report immediately.

The commission was established last year, aiming at looking at the possibility of free education in institutions of higher learning.

Mcitwa said students were currently demonstrating around the campus.

“We will carry on with demonstrations until we get what we want,” he said.
