Protesting Rhodes students appear in court

Half of the 43 Rhodes University students arrested during #FeesMustFall protests on charges ranging from malicious damage to property to assault appeared in the Grahamstown Magistrates Court today.

Dozens of students packed the courtroom to watch each group briefly appear before magistrate Sarel Strauss - who postponed all the cases until March 3.

Warrants of arrest for the students who were not in court today were held over until after their next appearance following an earlier agreement between prosecutor Navadia Adriaan and local attorney Basil Williams.
