Academic activities have ground to a halt at the University of Fort Hare's Alice campus.

This comes after students agreed to embark on a protest during a mass meeting that was held last night.

Two bookshops located on campus were vandalised and looted last night.

Students are now moving from one residence to the other mobilising students to join the protest.

SRC president Mosuli Cwele said students will submit a memorandum on grievances later on.

"We have in the past sought meeting with the management to address issues students have been complaining about. But the issue now is the implementation," he said.

Some of the issues students demand is payment of money due to students who pass with distinctions, water problems, among other things.

Last night, students vandalised and looted  two bookshops located on campus taking everything they could lay their hands on.
