ANC trio open assault cases
This comes after provincial executive committee member and transport MEC Weziwe Tikana opened a public violence case after Sunday’s chaotic scenes, which included delegates hitting each other with chairs.
The two factions that had been competing for control of the ANC in the province had fought over a dispute over the adoption of credentials.
Amathole region’s Vukile Jobo branch secretary, Liziwe Matyholo, said she was among those who had an issue with the credentials.
“There were two delegates from my branch but I saw a person whose membership had not been renewed at the conference venue with a voting tag.”
Matyholo needed stitches in her head as a result of a chair hitting her, and Nomonde Geza’s arm was broken the same way. Mzoxolo Mathondolo also needed stitches on his forehead.
ANC national leaders are still to decide on the validity of the conference, which elected Oscar Mabuyane as the new chairman instead of Phumulo Masualle, who had served two terms. — email@example.com
