Former ANC MP and Border Rugby Union (BRU) president John Ncinane has died.

Ncinane became BRU president in 2001 while he was also the head of Border Athletics and also served in the National Sports Council.

The Daily Dispatch reported in 2016 how a Legends Sports Trust was established with its first task being to raise funds for Ncinane who had lost both legs and was wheelchair bound following a long battle with diabetes.

ANC provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi said the party was shocked and hurt by Ncinane’s passing.

“He has been in the struggle for a long time and we are sure he will get a funeral fitting of a hero that he was. We send our condolences to his family and the people he worked with,” Ngcukayitobi said.
