The Nahoon and Eastern beaches have been closed following a shark attack on a surfer at the Nahoon Beach this morning.
Buffalo City Metro Municipality recreation manager Allen Zealand said the surfer sustained minor injuries. “We got a phone call this morning saying someone has been attacked but the guy just had a few scratches and his board had a few marks on it.”
A junior surfing event was cancelled due to safety concerns following the attack. “They will carry on tomorrow. According to procedure, we close the beach for public safety because the shark might be there for some time before it moves on so we do not want to open the beach when we know there is a shark roaming around.”
The Beaches will be opened on Sunday.
