A Duncan Village sedan taxi driver who lied to his taxi owner that his Mazda 323 sedan was hijacked and stolen in Mdantsane in March 2016, but was seen driving it around a few days later, was today found guilty and sentenced for motor vehicle theft by the East London regional court.

As a result, the 26-year-old Mkhokeli Vimbela will now spend the next seven years in jail.

This after regional court magistrate Nomthandazo Vabaza found him guilty of theft and later sentenced him for the loss of the R32 000 worth vehicle.

Despite the alleged hijacking incident taking place on March 12 2016, and Vimbela being in police custody since April 1 of that year, the vehicle is yet to be recovered.
