Two elderly women shot in their homes at 1am

Two gunmen burst into two homes in the early hours on Monday and shot and killed one elderly woman, while another is fighting for her life.
The bizarre attack on the two women in Lower Didimala near Komani has left the community shocked and afraid.
Komani police have asked for community assistance in tracking down the two men.
Police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni said the two assailants were armed and dangerous and warned residents against apprehending them.
“The police are investigating a case of murder and one of attempted murder.
“It is alleged that the two armed unknown men entered in two homesteads in Lower Didimala on Monday morning.
“They first approached one house, where they shot a 55-year-old woman, and thereafter they proceeded to the second house and asked for the victim from a relative,” she said.
Mdleleni said when the elderly woman appeared they shot her dead.
“The suspects then fled the scene.
“The first victim was taken to hospital.
“The motive for the heinous attacks are still unknown and will be investigated,” Mdleleni added. She appealed to anyone who could assist the police in the investigation to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Richard Fredericks, on 082-441-8232 or the Crime Stop line, 08600-10111.
Ward councillor Ayanda Tiwana said: “People fear for their lives as they don’t know who these people are going to come for next. People are too afraid to speak about the incident as the suspects are not known by the community.
“These incidents happened around about 1am.”
Tiwana said the attackers must have thought they had killed the first woman too.
