The new Miss Eastern Cape – Beauty with a Purpose will be crowned on Sunday @The Venue at Hemingways.
The pageant celebrates its fifth year running, and founder Zikhona Ngxata said she was thrilled to see how the event had grown over the years.
“What makes Miss Eastern Cape – Beauty with a Purpose different to other pageants is that it empowers and develops young girls in the province,” said Ngxata, adding that “the pageant would not have been a success without sponsors such as the Eastern Cape Gambling Board” who have given a lot of support.
Ngxata said the pageant uses its platform to address social ills faced by women in the province, and helps to provide life skills to all those who enter.
“This will be the platform to celebrate and emancipate young women to becoming confident individuals that can lead the social revolution in our province. The contestants undergo training prior to the main event on Sunday. For three days leading up to the event they are taught: Etiquette and grooming;
Academia (the importance of education);
Psychological training;
Spiritual training;
Leadership and entrepreneurship. Ngxata said this year MSC College would offer a full bursary to the winner to study a course of their choice.
Winner in 2017, Nomthandazo Shange, from the OR Tambo District, said in her term she was able to give back to the community through empowerment programmes where she held motivational talk sessions with schoolchildren and visited orphanages in Mthatha.
Artists expected to perform on Sunday at the event include Banomoya hitmaker Busiswa, alongside sisters Zandi and Kelly Khumalo, Kaygee The Vibe, Dumza Maswana as well as Da Fresh and Athie.
Moshe Ndike and Sibabalwe Makeleni will be MC and Ayanda Ncwane guest speaker.
Tickets cost R200 for general, R300 for VIP, and R500 for VVIP Tickets are available from Computicket. The doors open at 6pm.
