WATCH | Eastern Cape farmers take their cattle to a ‘peaceful’ strike
Komani small farmers took their cattle to a peaceful strike demanding grazing land for their livestock from the municipality.
On Wednesday the farmers and their cattle brought the Cathcart Road, which is a main road in Komani, to a total standstill demanding to meet with the mayor Sisisi Tolashe.
Komani Farmers Association chairperson Zola Magoqoza said black emerging farmers are crowded in a small camp which results in overgrazing.
"We are demanding grazing land for our animals. There is a piece of land which we are leasing from the municipality but that land is not enough," he said.
Magoqoza said they have been complaining about this to the municipality for a long time and they are not getting any help.
"We have identified two spaces which the municipality can give us for our cows," he said...
