Man arrested for Maclear armed robbery
A 26-year-old Maclear post office employee was arrested in connection with a robbery that took place on Tuesday. The robbers entered the post office and one of them held an employee at gunpoint and instructed people to lie down on the floor before emptying the safe and tills.
They allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe and also emptied the tills before fleeing the scene in a Ford Ranger bakkie belonging to one of the staff members.
The Ford Ranger bakkie, an R4 riffle and two magazines were recovered. Another suspect was shot dead on Tuesday after a shoot-out with the police.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Sibongile Soci said: “The relationship between the suspect and the deceased will be established through the investigation. The 26-year-old will appear in the Maclear Magistrate's Court on charges of business robbery on Friday .”..
