EFF protests after girl denied access to school over hair

EFF supporters are protesting outside the Kings College in Mdantsane after an eight-year-old girl was denied entry to classes because of her dreadlocks last week.
EFF branch chairperson Xolile Tsili said they would "fight till the child is back at school".
He said: "The school policy cannot discriminate against an African child. This is her natural hair and they can't force her to relax it.
"We want to engage with the management of the school about this new policy, because the child was schooling here last year and now they are changing things to make it harder for the black child."
The child's father, small business owner Siseko Siwisa, said the girl had been at home since last Wednesday.
"My child is still at home. The department of education has failed us. They are not doing anything to solve this matter, and I will make sure my child goes back to class with her own hair."
Siwisa and EFF members were in a meeting with the school principal on Monday morning. The department has not yet replied to questions by DispatchLIVE...
