WATCH | 'Partying students' keep Southernwood resident up all night

A Southernwood resident says she had a sleepless night after a group of Walter Sisulu University students partied in the street until Saturday morning.
The resident, who did not wish to be named for fear of victimisation, sent the Dispatch photographs and videos of the group, who she claims were drinking and playing loud music only hours after protesting students brought the East London CBD to a standstill.
Students at WSU's East London and Mthatha campuses have been protesting over the distribution of NSFAS allowances.
The protest took a violent turn on Thursday night when students blockaded streets in Southernwood with burning objects.
The resident, who lives in King Street, said she arrived home from work at about 5pm on Friday to find "lots of cars" arriving in the street, where many students live.
"They were unloading alcohol and I thought they were going to go inside the residences, but they stayed in the street drinking and playing loud music from their cars. More cars arrived throughout the night. They carried on the whole night and only stopped just now," the resident said on Saturday morning.
She was convinced the group had received their NSFAS allowances but instead of spending it on food, as students said they were hungry during the protests, they had chosen to hold a massive street party with no concern for other residents...
