A 57-year-old ANC councillor has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old epileptic girl in Maluti in the Alfred Nzo District of the Eastern Cape.
The man, a councillor in Matatiele Municipality, appeared in the Maluti Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of rape, said Eastern Cape provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana told DispatchLIVE.
Kinana said the case was postponed to July 30 for a formal bail application.
The prominent politician will spend the next five days in jail after he was remanded in custody, confirmed Kinana.
The councillor may not be named as he has not yet pleaded and because of the nature of the offense.
The rape allegedly took place at Tshisa Locality outside Matatiele.
