Amathole District Municipality workers downed tools this morning in protest against issues against municipal manager Thembekile Mnyimba.

Vusi Novukela, Independent Municipal and Allied Trade UnionEast London shop steward, said the workers were left fuming when they found out that Mnyimba had drastically increased his salary by R700 000 a month, while the workers salary increases have been frozen since mid-2018.

"We have (issues) we want the municipality to address... We also want the Hawks to investigate his hotel stay. We've heard that the room he stays in costs R1, 700 per night. We will continue with out struggle until he comes to address us.”

Mnyimba relayed a message, via a policeman to the workers, saying he would not be able to meet them as he had received a letter from them after hours yesterday.
