WATCH | EL man, 83, scammed at ATM

The elaborate province-wide ATM syndicate targeting pensioners and tourists has hit Beacon Bay.

Ken Theron, 83, is the latest victim; after losing R2 050 and his bank card at a Spargs Mall ATM after being "helped" by an unknown man.

The suspected scammer left him with just R17, Theron told DispatchLIVE during an interview at his home on Wednesday. Theron, a former Seymour farmer, said he had been left shaken.

The well-dressed man is now wanted by Beacon Bay police for questioning,  East London police spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala confirmed.

The incident was captured on cellphone footage by vigilant former Daily Dispatch journalist, Thank You Sorry Please blogger Taralyn Mclean, who became suspicious and confronted the man.

The incident comes a three weeks after a 71-year-old widow was scammed out of R36 000 at Nahoon Spar ATM on July 9.
