EC legislature's security under fire

The Eastern Cape legislature is a security risk and continues to have poor security and access control system despite the institution being a National Key Point.

This is according to a report tabled by portfolio committee chairperson on the legislature Kholiswa Fihlani in the budget vote held in the legislature on Tuesday.

There is also no proper monitoring on staff members that are responsible for cleanliness of the legislature.

As a result of the lack of monitoring parts of the Legislature are dirty.

ANC MPL Nonceba Kontsiwe, responding to the report, said it was "embarrassing" that a national key point had dirty areas.

ATM MPL Mvenya said the house has no dignity. "When there are no MPLs there will be no legislature. She criticised legislature officials for not picking up their phones when MPLs wanted help.
