Top brass have arrived at the head of a team of detectives at the Hluleka death cottage at 10.15am.

Eastern Cape deputy commissioner of crime detection Major General Zithulele Dladla was shown around inside chalet 1.

Kari Turner, 31, was found stabbed to death, her husband Matthew, 34, badly injured from stab wounds. Their 23-month-old toddler Hayden's cries had attracted help from a neighbouring cottage.

Workers looked on as Dladla, detectives, Hluleka Nature Reserve manager Nikelwa Tom and East Cape Parks and Tourism regional manager Vuyani Mapiya inspected the crime scene.

A worker told DispatchLIVE that the couple arrived in happy spirits and Matthew Turner had cracked jokes in isiZulu. "The wife (Kari) looked pregnant and they had a baby boy."

The officials declined to comment.

DispatchLIVE was referred to a police spokesperson.
