Yandisa Jonas, 28, was sentenced on Thursday to 19 years in jail by the Butterworth magistrate’s court for raping a boy, 12.

Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the rape happened in November 27, 2017 at 9.30am when the victim was fetching water from a tap at Eziteneni informal settlement near Bika Township, Butterworth.

He said the rapist dragged the boy to his shack and raped him.

The case was successfully investigated by the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

Eastern Cape Police provincial commissioner, lieutenant- general Liziwe Ntshinga welcomed the conviction and sentence. She appealed to women and children to break the silence whenever they were abused.

The sentence came a few days after two male school teachers and an administration clerk appeared in court for the rape of two schoolboys at Ngcobo primary.
