Covid-19: SA cases up to 1462

South African health minister Zweli Mkhize on Thursday night announced that the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country had risen by 82 to 1,462.

Two new cases were recorded in the Eastern Cape, Free State 8, Gauteng 18, KZN 20, Limpopo 2, Mpumalanga 1, Western Cape 27 and the balance are as yet unallocated to a specific province.

Mkhize, who had been visiting Universitas Hospital in the Free State, said that there was a restrained in the numbers which he believed was a result of the lockdown, which he said had made a “huge difference”.

The minister added that where were two new possible fatalities, but they still required confirmation before being added to the nation's current total of five deaths.
