By the numbers: Eastern Cape Covid-19 confirmed cases breakdown by district

The Eastern Cape now has 417 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the latest figures released by the national health ministry.

Six deaths have been recorded in the province.

The provincial breakdown is as follows:

  • Nelson Mandela Metro: 194
  • Buffalo City Metro: 135
  • OR Tambo: 29
  • Chris Hani: 37
  • Sarah Baartman: 15
  • Amathole: 5
  • Joe Gqabi: 1
  • Alfred Nzo: 1

With Nelson Mandela Bay the epicentre of the virus in the province, health MEC Sindiswa Gomba is finalising the appointment of the Nelson Mandela health district manager at the chief director level.

A total of 57 professionals and enrolled nurses are to be contracted for the duration of the Covid-19 reduction efforts. Fifteen additional vehicles will be allocated to the metro to expedite screening, testing and tracing.

A total of 1.5m surgical masks, 200,000 pairs of gloves, 1,800 visors and 28,500 N95 masks have been received from the national department of health.

Gomba has appealed to members of the public to follow the Covid-19 guidelines which include remaining at home, washing hands and social distancing.
