The Eastern Cape's confirmed Covid-19 cases number 588, as of Monday night, with 53 new cases having been reported in the 24 hours since the previous release.

Nelson Mandela Bay tops the provincial list, with 276 confirmed coronavirus cases; followed by Buffalo City, with 150 cases; Chris Hani district, with 87, O.R. Tambo district, with 48; Sarah Baartman district, with 16; Amathole district, with 8; Joe Qgabi district, with 2; and Alfred Nzo district, with a single case.

“More people will continue testing positive as the worst is yet to come, but our dedicated workers are ready, willing and able to deal with this outbreak,” the MEC said.

“We need more people to be tested so they can be treated.”

Gomba told DispatchLIVE on Tuesday that there were 57 people being hospitalised for Covid-19 around the province.
