Eastern Cape transport CFO killed in car accident

Provincial transport department CFO Denzel Skweyiya died in a car accident on Friday night.

He died in an accident on the N2 between King William’s Town and Mdantsane in a head-on-collision between Skweyiya's Toyota sedan and a a BMW shortly before 7pm.

The provincial government's longest-serving CFO died on the scene. The driver of the BMW survived with minor injuries.

Transport, safety & liaison MEC Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe extended condolences to the Skweyiya Family.

“We have lost one of the most seasoned members of the provincial administration and we will forever be indebted to him for the role he has played to improve the lives of the people of the province,” Tikana-Gxothiwe said.

Skweyiya joined the department two decades ago as its first finance director.

Transport, safety & liaison HOD Mzilindile Mafani said: “We are heartbroken and grieve that our friend and colleague, has passed away. Our thoughts, prayers go to his wife and children and all the extended family.”
