Police are investigating a case of arson after a high school in Dutywa burnt down at the weekend.
According to a statement from the office of SAPS provincial commissioner Liziwe Ntshinga, damage estimated at R1.1m was sustained in the blaze at Dinizulu Senior Secondary School located at Taleni village, Dutywa.
Police said the unnamed school principal was woken up at about midnight on Saturday and informed that the school had burnt down.
He went to investigate and upon arrival realised the administration block, with all the teachers’ and learners files, cleaning materials, tables, chairs and books, had been burnt to ashes.
According to the police no-one had been arrested.
Ntshinga condemned the incident and instructed Dutywa detectives to work around the clock to ensure the perpetrators were brought to book.
