The Covid-19 death toll at the Roman Catholic Church convent in Mthatha has now risen to five after yet another nun succumbed to the virus on Wednesday.
Four nuns died from Covid-19 last week.
According to Sister Nokwanda Bam, head of the Mother House Convent at Ikwezi Township in Mthatha, all the sisters were elderly.
"A fifth sister died at about 10am this morning here at the convent. This is catastrophic... others are very sick," said Bam.
The deceased was one of the 17 remaining sisters who had tested positive. Two drivers have also tested positive.
