Buffalo City Metro is closing swimming pools, libraries and community halls (except for funerals) with immediate effect to negate the spread of Covid-19.

This was confirmed to DispatchLIVE by BCM mayor Xola Pakati on Thursday morning.

“We will also be escalating the monitoring of liquor outlets, and law enforcement will be out in full force. Those outlets found to be contravening Level 1 regulations will face serious consequences,” he said.

At this stage, it does not appear the measures set to be introduced in Nelson Mandela Bay will be rolled out in Buffalo City. These include the closure of public spaces and limiting the sale of alcohol to certain days.
