Six people died while 14 others were injured, one critically, when a bus caught fire in Tshwane on Friday afternoon.

The incident took place on the R573 Moloto Road.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said the six people killed in the blaze were burnt beyond recognition.

He said he was made aware of the incident around 4pm and rushed to the scene.

“A bus caught fire and six people have been declared dead on the scene. I can also confirm that another 14 including a driver have been rushed to the nearest hospital around the city and one is in a critical condition. At this stage, we do not know what the cause of the fire is and it is still being investigated,” Mahamba said.
