A former teacher of Mbilwi Secondary School in Limpopo, who is facing rape charges, was granted bail of R3,000 in the Thohoyandou magistrate's court on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old is facing three counts of rape.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, said it is alleged that the former teacher raped a pupil, who was 17-years-old in 2018, on different occasions. He allegedly threatened the victim and offered money for her silence.
"The court granted him bail on the following conditions, that he must not communicate with the victim in any manner, not to leave Limpopo province without informing the investigating officer, to report to Sibasa Correctional Services every last Friday of the month and to appear on each and every court date," Malabi-Dzhangi said.
The case was postponed to August 16.
