The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that a succession of cold fronts is expected to sweep across the country throughout this week, bringing strong winds and low temperatures.

A weather advisory for East London has been issued, with a damaging wind expected from 4pm on Wednesday, July 21. Disruptive rain is also expected from 11pm on Wednesday, expected to last until the end of Friday.

Localised wind incidents are expected over the coastal areas, with localised flooding. Power and communication interruptions may also be possible. Difficult driving conditions are also expected.

The public is advised to take caution when outdoors.

The maximum temperature is expected to plummet on Thursday 11˚C, with showers. A strong wind of up to 40km/h, with gale force gusts reaching 90 km/h, will exacerbate the conditions. Friday will be slightly warmer, with a maximum of 14˚C expected, and slight rain. Temperatures are expected to recover gradually from Saturday.
