A woman who submitted a fraudulent matric certificate to secure a job appeared in the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.

Lesedi Mothuse, 38, has been charged with fraud amounting to R1.7 million paid to her by the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDOH) as its employee since 2011.

Mothuse resigned from her position of senior data capturer in July last year when the ECDOH discovered that the certificate she submitted for employment was fraudulent.

Mothuse was released on R4 000 bail, and the matter was postponed to 21 July.
