ANC wants VBS mayors gone, but the feeling isn’t mutual

Within the next couple of weeks, at least 12 municipalities in the North West and Limpopo could be without a mayor – unless they defy party orders.
While the ANC’s provincial task teams in the North West and Limpopo have announced the removal of mayors whose municipalities were found to have illegally invested money with the defunct mutual bank, it is now up to the mayors whether they will resign or dig in their heels.
In the North West, Madibeng mayor Jostina Mothibe, Moretele mayor Andries Monageng, Mahikeng mayor Betty Diakanyo and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati mayor Boitumelo Mahlangu were fired by the ANC provincial task team last week after it was found their municipalities had invested more than R300m in the now-defunct VBS bank...
