Cala entrepreneur taps into purification business

Tired of what he described as “brownish, murky water” in Cala, a young businessman has decided to tap into the water purification and selling industry.
Mathongo Vilana, 29, said he had noticed a great demand for clean water in Cala because he would often have to buy water for his family. He said the tap water was undrinkable.
On Friday he opened his business selling bottled water, refilling water containers and selling ice.
“I noticed that we have a problem with the water here in Cala, which I believe leads to some people being sick. The water is not really clean and I found myself often buying 5l bottles for my family to drink.
“Then I realised this was the business opportunity I needed to exploit,” he said.
He said business was second nature to him as he was raised by entrepreneurs who had a supermarket and were now in the property industry.
“I am an entrepreneur and business has always been my interest. I was focusing all my energy on my construction business, Mzilikazi Suppliers, but my mother advised me to explore other business opportunities as well,” he said.
With his parents’ help, he managed to raise capital for the water purifying equipment.
“Thankfully I didn’t have to worry about paying rent because the space was given to me by my parents,” Vilana said.
He opened his shop on Friday and said he has already received tremendous support from the community. “People were already flocking in here on the weekend enquiring about our products,” he said...
