Boot Camp to push pupil health

In an effort to promote health and fitness in schools, Advanced for Life Christian Academy will be hosting the Hercules Boot Camp at Old Selbornians on March 30.
This will take the form of a family fun day hosted by fitness coach and Hercules Boot Camp founder Singwa Silinga.
Silinga previously hosted a fun day at the school, and such was the response that this event has now been planned.
“Even the anti-social kids joined in and enjoyed themselves. An active child is a very happy child,” said deputy principal Hazel Gora.
“A lot of our children do not take part in extra mural activities, but through this initiative we hope to encourage our kids to stay fit and healthy,” said Gora.
The school has more than 700 pupils, from grade 1 to 12.
Silinga said: “The main aim is to encourage children to be physically active and promote health consciousness from a young age. When we had the fitness family fun day at the school, one could see that exercise spiked confidence as well as encouraged the children in team work and to have fun in a sporty way.”
The children will take part in gym classes that will include kick-boxing, dance aerobics, a Hercules circuit and cardio dance classes. Health evaluations, pony rides, a water slide and stalls will also be on offer.
Tickets cost R150 for adults and R120 for children from five to 13. Bookings can be made with Silinga on 081-485-8515...
