What are the Daily Dispatch and DispatchLIVE?

The Daily Dispatch newspaper has a long and rich history dating back to 1872. It was the first penny daily newspaper published in the Eastern Cape in 1898 – and by 1906, the paper boasted a circulation larger and more widely distributed than any colonial paper published outside Cape Town.

In its centenary it became the first newspaper in South Africa to offer full-colour facilities to its advertisers and readers.

The Daily Dispatch, now published in East London from Monday to Saturday but covering the entire region, including Mthatha, has always been at the forefront of exposing injustice and advocating fair treatment for all South Africans.

DispatchLIVE is the digital home of the Daily Dispatch, publishing fresh news, insights, opinions, sport and entertainment reports all day long, seven days a week.

DispatchLIVE readers can register (quick and free – see below) to comment on articles or to receive our regular email newsletters. (Already registered on SowetanLIVE, BusinessLIVE, HeraldLIVE or TimesLIVE? Sign in with the same details.)

There is a daily selection of free articles to read on DispatchLIVE, but readers need to subscribe to enjoy full access to all content on the website.

How do I register on the DispatchLIVE website?

Registration is free, quick and easy. Once you’ve registered, you can comment on our articles and sign up for a range of useful email newsletters. You can also then manage your own newsletter subscriptions.

We will also send you a short email with a link to click to verify your email address. If you have not yet verified your address, we'll remind you of that later.

How do I subscribe to DispatchLIVE digitally?

You'll be asked to register on the site (if you haven't done so before) or to sign in, and thereafter you'll be able to pay for your subscription.

Great journalism is expensive to produce. While newspaper publishers depend heavily on advertising revenue, that is not enough to let us bring you all the trustworthy, quality reporting you need. We’ve worked hard to give you lots of value through a Daily Dispatch or DispatchLIVE subscription, and your support means we’re able to keep bringing you East London's best news, entertainment and lifestyle reporting.

Our subscription packages

There are three packages on offer via DispatchLIVE (if you choose not to subscribe, you will still enjoy a daily selection of free-to-read articles):

  • DispatchLIVE Basic subscribers enjoy unlimited access to all DispatchLIVE content – including breaking news, in-depth investigations, opinion pieces, and live sport coverage (including school sport and boxing). Subscribers can also already read stories from the print edition the night before the newspaper hits the streets.
  • DispatchLIVE Plus subscribers have the same benefits as DispatchLIVE Basic subscribers but also have access to Sunday Times Daily, Arena Holdings' national digital-only daily edition published at 5am every weekday, and the Daily Dispatch e-edition. They also qualify for Weekend Dispatch print delivery to their homes.
  • Daily Dispatch Prime subscribers enjoy all of the above benefits along with full digital access to the Sunday Times website and Daily Dispatch print delivery to their doorstep.

Click here to subscribe online – it's quick and easy. If you do not like what we offer, you can cancel your subscription at any time without any hassles.

DispatchLIVE Plus and Daily Dispatch Prime subscribers can sign in on the Sunday Times Daily or Sunday Times websites, depending on their subscription package, with the same email address and password they use on DispatchLIVE.

Alternatively, if you would like to subscribe to the Daily Dispatch print edition only, contact our call centre at Tel: 0860 52 52 00 or helpdesk@dispatchlive.co.za.
