Pakati: BCM to focus more on infrastructure development
Buffalo City Metro mayor Xola Pakati has announced a R65-million investment in the rehabilitation of factories in Dimbaza, along with a raft of infrastructure projects affecting road and rail links and housing.
Most of the money – R50-million – will come from the department of trade and industry (dti) and the rest from the department of economic development, environmental affairs and tourism (Dedeat) which will contribute R12-million and BCM (R3-million).
Pakati was delivering his state of the metro address at the East London International Convention Centre yesterday.
He also announced that the Passenger Rail Agency SA (Prasa) is to invest R21-million in upgrading railway stations around the metro. He said the overlay of operations which existed between transport and telecommunications systems was a critical feature of achieving a well connected city.
