Premier, provincial government saddened by MEC Makupula's death
Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masualle and the entire provincial government have sent their condolences to the family and friends of MEC for Education Mandla Makupula following his death.
The MEC died at an East London hospital just after 1am on Monday after a long illness.
The premier's office said Makupula served the people of the Eastern Cape with integrity and ethical leadership.
"On behalf of the executive council and the entire provincial government, the premier expresses his heartfelt condolences to friends, colleagues and family of the late MEC. We are saddened by his death."
Details about his funeral will be announced in due course.
Provincial government spokesperson Sonwabo Mbananga told DispatchLIVE that they were in no position to give too much detail on Makupula's passing "to allow the family time and space to mourn".
"Privacy during this time is critically important and so, as the Office of the Premier, all we can say is that indeed the MEC has passed on," said Mbananga...
