Pakati under fire for poor leadership in strike
Embattled Buffalo City Mayor Xola Pakati faces a motion of no-confidence from the DA for what it said was failure to demonstrate political leadership in the recent Samwu strike that cost the metro R200m.
In a statement, DA MP Kevin Mileham said Pakati has failed to communicate with the city and to keep the interest of the residents of the city first.
This comes after Pakati folded under pressure from Samwu workers who downed tools in a three-week-long strike that left the streets of East London strewn with rubbish. Pakati agreed to pay over 5,000 workers R10,000 untaxed as a form of an apology. The workers demanded permanent employment of temporary workers and improvement of their working conditions.
