Darryl Brown will be aiming to make some history for himself as he hunts his 200th first- class wicket when Border take on Western Province in their Sunfoil Three-Day Cup match starting in Cape Town today.

Brown currently sits on 198 scalps from 103 first-class games and will be looking to add at least two more over the course of this match.

It will be a tough task for the Border team as they play a WP team high on confidence and topping the pool A log, while Border sit on fifth.

“I haven’t really thought about the 200 to be honest, but I am really looking forward to the challenge of taking on Western Province. They are top of the log and fighting for a home final, so it should be a very exciting game,” said Brown.

“But hopefully I can get my 200th wicket this game, it will just be another milestone but a nice one to get.”

Border come into the match off the back of a loss against Easterns at Buffalo Park in their last outing and they will be eager to bounce back from that defeat.

For Border it has been a season of close results with them well poised in a number of matches that ended in draws. They will not want a repeat of that against WP.

“We really need to start winning, we have had a number of draws where we dominated the game and then let it slip away, so we have to rectify that,” said Brown.

WP’s last match was against Easterns as well, the week before Border played them, with WP emerging from that game as comfortable winners by six wickets.

They will be aiming to take that momentum into the Border match as a win would see them tighten their hold on top spot in the pool.

“They will definitely be coming hard at us, they will be pushing for a home final and will want to get another win to give them that chance,” he said.

Not many changes have been made to the squad from Border’s last match against Easterns two weeks ago, with only a few players that were in the extended squad missing out on selection this time and Jerry Nqolo unavailable due to Warriors commitments.

“We are very confident in the team we have. We know each other well and have played together for years, so it’s just a case of the guys believing in themselves and delivering when it matters,” said Brown.

Following the three-day match, which will end by Saturday, the two sides will then battle it out in a provincial one-day cup match on Sunday.

Border have struggled on the one day side this season, only managing one win so far, so they will be eager to get a good win over WP to boost their confidence.

The Border squad is: Gionne Koopman, Mkhululi Calana, Martin Walters, Somila Seyibokwe, Avumile Mnci, Darryl Brown, Marco Marais, Sinovuyo Ntuntwana, Kabelo Sekhukhune, Brandon Williams, Clayton Bosch, Bradley Williams, Phaphama Fojela.
