ABC MotsepeLeague log leaders Tornado continued their unbeaten run when they hammered Future Tigers 5-2 in a thrilling match at North End Stadium in East London at the weekend.
Both teams have played seven games and Tornado remains at the summit of the log standings with 19 points, having scored 19 goals to date. Meanwhile, Tigers have 11 goals and remain on 15 points.
The winning team’s coach Tshepo Motsoeneng said they could have been more ruthless, but their lack of concentration cost them dearly, conceding a second goal.
“The boys showed character when they scored five goals with the opponents only on one goal until the last few minutes.
“But South African players need to learn that 5-1 means nothing if you’re not playing.
Motsoeneng said he was preparing his players to fight for their next meal and not make careless mistakes.
“I'm not happy with the way we conceded because the ’keeper just slept on the second. You need to be ruthless and you need to make sure that the goal difference is higher.”
He said as they visit EC Bees at Bhisho Stadium this coming weekend he hoped to see fair officials who will maintain balance.
“This is going to be a tough match because the Bees walloped us during the Nedbank and that was disappointing – we were in our backyard and still couldn’t press them.
“We know it's not going to be easy there but we’re prepared and we want to come out there saying football was played.”
Tigers coach Asanda Mvalo was delighted with the performance his charges put up against the Mdantsane-based outfit.
“They played very well and did everything to try and win this game, but I think what killed us was home advantage. Everything was fair in terms of officiating and other stuff.
It’s just that we were playing away – we should have buried the game in the first half. Even in the second half we had chances but we let in soft goals.”
Mvalo was not fazed by the loss, saying he was not worried as it happens at times that players get a rough day on the pitch.
“They are not machines, they have been winning and they have been solid at the back.
“We’re going to soldier on and I have just told them they will never become bad players overnight – there’s nothing wrong with the team and even though we lost this game, we can still go on to win the league.
“It was just one of those days and to score two goals away from home is something,” he said.
The Ginsberg-based outfit will prepare to host Mthatha City at Ginsberg Field and Mvalo said if they would maintain their tempo they stood a chance to beat City.
