Matta Milan might have gotten their new season off on a bad note, but they surely didn’t let that ruin their ABC Motsepe League campaign.
Milan seem to be finding their feet slowly but surely after their bitter start, following a string of defeats including their embarrassing 6-0 loss to the newcomers in the third-tier league, Bizana Pondo Chiefs, who are seventh on the log-standings with 16 points.
Now they will be looking to keep the momentum going into their next encounter against Try Again.
Meanwhile, Matta Milan were sitting at 13th spot with only eight points and by all indications they will soon be in a much better position to compete stronger.
Matta Milan coach, Andile Dyani, said playing against teams who were competing in the league or in the top eight has given his team the push needed.
“If you checked the game we won against Lion City and then we played against Future Tigers where we managed to collect another point after we drew with them.
“We haven’t lost any games recently and we are trying by all means to maintain this trend.
“Even during the game where we lost to Bees – we had troubles in the club as my centre-backs were injured, so I had to reshuffle and make positional changes because we had to honour the game and slowly but surely we are getting there.”
Dyani said his team was reaching a turning point as they have managed to stand their ground against league contenders including the game against second position dwellers PE Stars who have 21 points.
“We were leading in the first half and then we conceded in the first 15 minutes, so slowly but surely we are getting there, we are trying, and we won’t throw in the towel.”
He said as they campaigned for the league, the biggest miscalculation would be to underestimate the other struggling teams including newcomers Try Again who were below Milan on the log – on eight points.
“I’ve identified the problems we’re facing on the pitch and I can already convert the boys to fit in whatever position I need them to play.
“But losing in the final game of the Nedbank Cup preliminary game against the Bees took a toll on the boys, but there’s nothing special about these so-called ‘big teams’ in the top eight, It’s just that Tornado managed to take their chances and the Bees should know they owe us.”
Dyani has been doing his homework on Try Again, having a close look at them during their clash against Mthatha City – the match ended 0-0. “I was analysing their tactics against City and I think they are in a similar crisis as we, but we’re taking them seriously and we have been marinating our problem areas and we will prove it this weekend.”
