Former Mthatha City coach and head of football, Nkush Malgas has joined National First Division outfit Witbank Spurs as assistant coach on a one-season agreement with a renewal option.

Malgas who has been with City since the 2014-15 ABC Motsepe League season yesterday officially signed on the dotted line with Spurs following an offer he received last week.

The Ngqamakwe-born football mentor said he is expecting to grow from the new venture and Spurs was the perfect team for him to join right now.

“It comes up more as a career challenge, even though it’s sad to leave City at this stage personally, but I’ve been in denial enough by turning down many offers that have came my way before,” Malgas said.

The well-decorated football strategist said not getting the recognition he deserved at home from the only NFD Club – Mthatha Bucks – didn’t matter because he knew that another door would eventually open.

“It’s more like in the Bible where a prophet doesn’t get recognition in his home town, as you remember the story of Jesus Christ. There are no hard feelings though.

“I hold an Uefa basic coaching licence, Caf A licence, WFA periodisation specialist and Stats notational level. And I think it’s very important for coaches to equip themselves, as there are a lot of benefits from doing that.”
