Cape Town City stay top after draw with Sundowns in Diski Challenge at Sisa

Cape Town City reserves narrowly retained their position at the summit of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge log standings after playing to a 1-1 stalemate with Mamelodi Sundowns at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Saturday.
City are now leading the pack with 1 point, sitting on 23 points while Sundowns remain 10th with 13 points on the log standings.
City reserves coach, Richard Lovell said they gave away a good game that could have solidified their position at the top of the log.
“The result was disappointing today and we weren’t good enough and didn’t keep the ball enough. It was really disappointing because we had such a good start to the game.
“In the tenth minute we had an opportunity and we scored, and then we just didn’t keep the ball enough. We let Sundowns back in and they dominated the game - quite disappointing,” said Lovell.
Sundowns reserves coach David Notoane was happy they managed to salvage a point away.
“I would have been happier with three points because we’re working to improve our concept of play, but I’m happy we didn’t lose away from home.
“There’s a lot of work to be done, but we played a good opponent at the top of the log.
“So I’m going to be greedy. One point is okay as we were an away team,” said Notoane.
He said the 10th position the young Brazilians were occupying on the log standings was not a true reflection of their reserve team’s capabilities.
“We are working with boys as young as 18 and their football is developing which is what we’re working for. [This is] so that when they go to the first team [Premier Soccer League team] they are ready for coach Pitso Mosimane.
“[Ready] in terms of understanding how the game is played, so for me that’s more important,” he added...
