Chiefs thrash Baroka in Diski Challenge at Sisa, Gordinho suffers injury
Kaizer Chiefs reserves thrashed Baroka reserves 4-1 in a thrilling MultiChoice Diski Challenge Festival encounter at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Saturday.
Glamour Boys coach Arthur Zwane was delighted with the result that has since helped them climb up the log standing to position 8 with 15 points.
But Zwane was not totally impressed with his charges’ showboating during the game, maintaining that sticking to the game plan was most important during this time of the season with on four games left.
“We’ve been performing like this for a while now, maybe if there’s a game we didn’t perform according to our standards it was against Highlands (Park).
“None of the teams match us pound for pound, we’ve been dictating the games and scoring goals. But we have conceded those stupid goals [too],” said Zwane.
The former Chiefs midfielder said there was a lot of improvement in the team
“I’m happy with their performance, this about developing the players properly so that our senior team (Kaizer Chiefs) can have players from us (reserve team).
“But today our game was balanced in all positions, but we just didn’t take our chances.”
On the hand Baroka has been relegated to 11th place on the log with 13 points after failing to secure three points. Baroka Reserves coach Bushy Moloi conceded they could not match the Glamour Boys reserves.
“We froze today. We could not manage the counter or transition. We couldn’t manage our centre play.
“And that’s where Chiefs capitalised. We lost concentration and for me it’s a learning curve and for my boys [as well].
“They need to understand if they want to play PSL there’s certain things they need to understand,” said Moloi. Gordinho injured
Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho suffered a freak and unexpected injury when a ball hit his left hand during Chiefs reserves’ 4-1 hammering of Baroka FC reserves in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge Festival encounter at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Saturday.
Chiefs reserve team coach Arthur Zwane confirmed to the Dispatch Weekend Edition that the defender did sustain an injury to his left hand, but said it was nothing to worry about.
“Lorenzo was hit by a ball in the hand, so we’ll go for a scan and then we’ll take it from there, but I don’t think it’s something big.
“He’s a senior team player and we want him to be fit.”
Zwane added: “He’s presence made a big difference during the game. Sometimes you bring in senior team players to come help these youngsters because we want them to understand where they are going in the next stage [of their careers] and this [high] level they are playing at,” said Zwane...
