Danny to act on clubs’ squabbles
Third tier sides hope to iron out their grievances through new structure
South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan is expected to be in town on Sunday when the provincial football body meets with ABC Motsepe League club representatives in East London.
Insiders told the Dispatch that Jordaan would be jetting in on Sunday, as the association is set to host all 16 clubs who are currently playing in the third-tier league.
The meeting is expected to iron out pertinent issues that have been raised by the 12 clubs in the league through the new club owners structure – the Eastern Cape Clubs Forum (ECCF), chaired by former defunct Bush Bucks director Sturu Pasiya.
Many club owners expect Jordaan to come down on them for going to the media with their grievances that include corruption in the league, and Safa’s failure to pay clubs their monthly travelling grants.
On Thursday, the provincial Safa office sent another letter to all the third-tier clubs, requesting them to send only one representative to this meeting as opposed to the two reps which were initially summoned to the closed gathering.
Club owners expect Jordaan to explain why it has taken so long to pay them only R18,000 as they were owed R60,000 from the 2017-18 to 2018-19 season, which only has ten games remaining in the fixtures.
Some club owners also expect to be told to toe the line or else face consequences.
The provincial referees committee is also expected to be present at the gathering, with the Safa head offices’ competition department and legal department having also being invited to the meet...
