AbaThembu mourn death of senior royal

AbaThembu are mourning the death of one of the senior royal members Nkosi Ntande Jongikhwezi Mtirara.

He will be buried at Matyenengqina near Mthatha on Saturday.

''He passed on at 7am on Friday May 7 due to his unstable blood pressure while admitted at St Mary's Hospital in Mthatha," said royal family spokesman, Nkosi Daludumo Mtirara yesterday.

''He took over as a headman in 1995 under his brother, the late Nkosi Zwelodumo Ndaba Mtirara before he handed over the reign to Nkosi Zwelakhe Zondwa Mtirara,  father to Bhovulengwe Mfundo Mtirara,'' said Daludumo.

Mtirara, 56, was one of the senior members of the AbaThembu who took issue on what they called as un-royal behaviour of AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo and in 2012 withdrew the ruling ritual spear.

He was one of the senior AmaDlomo royal clan members who lobbied for the imprisonment and dethronement of Dalindyebo who subsequently was sentenced to 12 years for, among others, arson and kidnapping.

Mtirara strongly believe that the right man to be the acting king was Prince Mthandeni Mankunku Dalindyebo.

But  AbaThembu, irrespective of their division on electing  an acting king, they are  all united in mourning one of their elders.
