Crown Gospel Awards winners Dumi Mkokstad and Betusile Mcinga are expected to take centre stage at the Guild Theatre.

The two will be performing tonight and tomorrow from 6.30pm. They are expected to sing alongside local musicians such as Nosiviwe, STAND and Zama and the Voice Ministry. The event is organised by Matrix Media.

Mcinga, son of the legendary Lusanda Mcinga, won his first Crown Gospel Award last year for song of the year for Zundithwale.

Since his big win, Mcinga said he has been doing live shows around the country.

“This is my way of saying thank you to everyone that voted for me and has been supporting my music since my debut,” Mcinga said.

He said he was not planning on releasing a new album this year but would focus on doing shows around the continent as well.

“I will also be shooting a music video for Nyange Lemihla from my current album. I will record a single by the end of this month and I will promote it right up to December,” he said.

Since taking a leap of faith and starting his solo career, Mcinga said he was humbled by the way people have been receiving his music.

“I’ve always looked up to singers like Lundi. He won numerous awards and was celebrated all over. I wanted to be like that but at the time I did not know how I would get there. Now my dream is a reality, I don’t only get invites from around the country but even other African countries recognise my music,” he said.

He also added that he would be joined by fellow musician and friend, Dumi Mkokstad, whose real name is Mdumiseni Nzimane.

The two will perform in Mthatha, Queenstown, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town in the next couple of weeks. Matrix Media’s Andile Maqoma said they would be using local instrumentalists and singers headed by music director Mandisi Luxomo, who has worked with great artists like Brian Temba.

He also added that there would be a surprise act tomorrow by a KwaZulu-Natal musician. Tickets for the event cost R130 and are available at Music Mix and Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch. co.za
